So it has taken me a while, but I have finally figured out what I dislike about pizzas. It’s the burning of the roof of the mouth. The nature of pizza, with its hot, sticky, burny topping and cool underside, ensures the burn is not uniform. Most foods burn the tongue and gums and roof if hot; but with pizza, only one part of the mouth – the roof just behind the teeth – is affected. I guess this is exacerbated by the desire to consume piping hot pizza fresh from the oven.
(This rant can be extended to open-grilled sandwiches with cheese as well)

(a) Do what do you’re doing now (and keep burning the roof of your mouth)
(b) Eat the pizza upside-down (and lose the topping off your pizza)
(c) Eat the pizza whilst you are upside down, and keep the pizza upright (and look like a fool)
(d) Wait for the pizza to cool down (but who can resist pizza when it’s sitting right in front of you?!)
There’s no simple solution, I’m afraid
