I jumped on the net to investigate how I can obtain the numbers of people signed up to RSS feeds for my work blog, and happened upon a piece titled “34 reasons why readers unsubscribe from your blog” at problogger.com. Well, if it is to be taken at face value, I should have NO people jumping on to check this blog out anytime soon. The top 11 reasons are:
- Too many posts (the post levels are too overwhelming) – although infrequent I can do this at times
- Infrequent Posting (or the blog is effectively dead) – the natural state of this blog
- Partial Excerpts Feeds – does that mean the more tag? I do that.
- Blog Changes Focus (too much off topic posting) – If only I actually had a focus
- Too many posts that I see elsewhere (Redundant, Repeated or Recycled News) – 34.7% of my posts are of this nature
- Uninteresting Content – the remainder are of this nature.
- Irrelevant Content – Hmm can I exceed 100%??
- The Blogger’s Ego – Too much self promotion – fuck you and fuck I’m good.
- Low Quality Content – So I don’t have spell checker, foot-in-mouth checker, grammar checker, ellipsis checker, e.t.c.
- Too many posts that are too long – would you like my travel stories in Haiku format? or limmerick?
- Negative blogging – Why be positive? Climate change made me impotent…
I think I can say that, at one time or other, I have been afflicted by all of these phenomena. Ipso facto, I have lost all readership…
Far from being depressing, this can only serve to spur me on to finally outlay all of those latent emotions about people I know who really piss me off . Oh the stream of irrepressible, putrescible crap that will grace the pixels of this blog now that I needn’t be afraid of people getting offended!
With two exceptions – Mum. Even though I can guarantee she was probably the first to switch off (assuming she ever actually switched on), I couldn’t possibly raise a literary finger against her.
Gally. He made me nachos and actually said he was looking forward to the next post. But there will come a time…oh yes…it will be mine…
OI! Some of us still do read your blog….
