1) Never assume that just because you are a stone’s throw from the corner of Ann St in the Valley and the bus destination reads Roma St Station that said bus will take the most direct route to said destination.
To paint a visual image for readers, imagine a short straight line. That is the direct route; one I hastily and erringly assumed would be mine. Now imagine an upside-down Mr Squiggle drawing, depicting – of all things – an incredibly long bus route that resembles a trunkless elephant. That is the route of bus 393 from Commercial Rd, Newstead to Roma St Station. Be suitably forewarned!

Entertainingly enough, had you have got on the same bus on the other side of the road, your route may have been quite short.
There’s also a cross-river ferry and a citycat pretty close to there.
