This song came about as a result of my new found love of the word perspicacity (sister of perspecuity and perspicaciousness). I started mucking around with verses and synonyms and voila…this was the result.

The song was originally called Polonius – after the verbose and bumbling character in Hamlet who states ” Therefore, since Breuitie is the Soule of Wit, And tediousnesse, the limbes and outward flourishes, I will be breefe.”

Similarly, the song, in true ‘Polonionic’ form, goes a long, long way to say a very simple thing. It is also known as the cinnamon song (an obvious play on synonym) or simply ‘Perspicacity’. Anyway, here are the lyrics…the music should be along shortly :)

Polonius

You’ve a particular perspicacity,
A veritable voracity
An intransigent tenacity
That’s tacitly implied

And your worth’s incontrovertible,
Indubitably indisputable;
Irrefutably imperturbable,
You’re infallible in my eyes

Notwithstanding your vicissitudes;
A lethargy and lassitude,
Your deftness and your aptitude
Cannot be belied

And your quirky quips have levity
A bold and brazen brevity
Yet nuances and rarity
That no one can deny

In sum I’d like to state, I think you’re…

And although you are cantankerous
Irascible and rancorous
Quarrelsome and querulous
And occasionally malign

Your slander is superlative
Insultingly informative
Immeasurably innovative
And deliciously designed

So, enough of all these platitudes
And my sycophantic attitude
Give me a little latitude
So I can now decide

If this song is irreproachable
Exquisite and emotional
Or perhaps a tad devotional
And something you’ll deride…

In sum, I’d like to state…
I think you’re great, I think you’re great…

Commendable, dependable, by no means expendable,
Super, top, first-rate…

I think you’re great, I think you’re great, I think you’re great…
